Expressive Dance Studio
Dress Code and Guide

All of our teachers are trained in anatomy and in order to properly engage with each dancer, they must be able to see the dancer’s body to ensure correct alignment and structural placement. Hence, it is imperative proper clothing listed below be worn.

Hair is always pinned back off the face for neatness, efficiency and safety of movement.

 

We have clothing, shoes, hair ties, and pins for those who need them.

Donations always welcome!

Recommended Shops

  • Online: Discount Dance Supply (Code: TP35437), Amazon, Tutulist (second hand).

  • Target or Walmart - for youth leotards, tights, and sometimes ballet shoes. 

  • InMotion Dance (Harrisonburg) and My Dance Shoppe (Charlottesville)

Ballet:

Pre-Primary

Girls - Light pink leotards, light pink canvas ballet shoes and light pink convertible tights.

Boys - White shirt, black pants, and black canvas ballet shoes.

Primary

Girls - Light pink leotards, light pink canvas ballet shoes and light pink convertible tights.

Boys - White shirt, black pants, and black canvas ballet shoes.

Level I-III

Girls - Black leotards, light pink tights, and light pink ballet shoes.

Boys - White, gray, or black t-shirts or with black bottoms, nude ballet shoes.

Level IV

Girls - Any color or pattern of leotard and tights, skirts allowed.

Boys - Any color fitted shirt with black bottoms.

All Other Techniques:

Jazz

Fitted tops and bottoms, socks or jazz shoes are encouraged. Tan jazz shoes will be needed for recitals but it is up to the dancer if they would like to wear them year round in class.

Modern

Fitted tops and bottoms, socks or barre feet depending on dancers preference.

Acro

Loose clothing, jewelry, or socks are prohibited during acro classes.

Tap

Any non-restrictive attire, with black slip-on tap shoes (avoid lace or velcro styles).

Dance Adventure

Any non-restrictive attire, with ballet shoes or socks. If your dancer prefers to wear a ballet uniform, a tutu or costume to class - that is absolutely welcome as long as it is not a distraction!
